Home Remodeling Creates Elegant Bathing Opportunities

A homeowner has the opportunity to turn a bathroom into a place where people can enjoy treating themselves with luxuries that they never had before Even a quick shower can turn into an act of pure relaxation if the shower is equipped with the right accessories There are many luxury items that take only minutes to install but will add more pleasure than many people ever thought possible

Home improvement stores are filled with many styles of shower heads that can be installed with very little equipment A standard shower head might include several invigorating selections that can be used to massage sore spots that came from a grueling workout at the gym Other selections on the shower head might make the homeowner think that they are standing under a waterfall The cascading shower heads can be attached to handheld devices that make reaching sore spots easy

A tub can be changed in many ways with very little effort There are many shells available for a tub interior that can change the look of the bathroom completely Some of these shells resemble marble that is shiny and smooth to the touch, and other surfaces reflect the appearance of a Grecian tub found in a palace

The style of tub might require the re-routing of water lines but the end result will make bathing a very enticing option each night The homeowner might choose to install a whirlpool tub for one or two people or they could go all out and install a tub and a separate showering stall that perfectly match each other No busy household should go without double sinks and mounted toothbrush holders on each side

For a truly elegant bathing opportunity, a homeowner might choose to heat the tiles on the bathroom floor This is the ultimate in comfort on cold, chilly mornings when the temperatures drop overnight Homeowners can choose to place hair dryers on the wall within easy reach of anyone that needs it Soap dispensers that automatically dispense and sensors that turn on and off the water are sure to delight every guest when they visit the newly remodeled bathroom

A homeowner might install a special shelf that is hidden behind glass panels These special areas can be used to store sparkling crystals that make bath water change to beautiful colors Warming rods can be installed for the towels that everyone will use throughout the day, and personalized toilets for men and women will certainly be an ultimate treat that will prove very useful on any day of the week

Choosing the right flooring for your kitchen is very important While you want something that will go well with your kitchen cabinets and other decor, you also want something that can stand up to your lifestyle and the wear and tear associated with the activities of a kitchen So when shopping for kitchen flooring you have to find a balance between durability and price

How much or how little you plan on using your kitchen will have an impact on your choice of flooring The best example of this is wood flooring Everyone likes the look of hardwood flooring, but in a kitchen with the potential for a lot of moisture of spills, a laminated wood flooring may be more appropriate The laminate floor won’t be affected as easily by the moisture, like a solid wood floor might be

Slate is another option for kitchen flooring, but may not be the best choice for a high traffic area because of the rough and uneven surfaces that can be commonly found in natural stone A good option would be a ceramic tile that gives the look of slate without give the uneven surfaces

Tile is another common option for flooring, but it is important to think about the grout lines With spills and stains being more common in the kitchen, leaving larger grout lines opens the opportunity for discoloring and even mold and mildew So if you decide to go with tile in the kitchen, it is important to use smaller grout lines and seal the grout lines to reduce the opportunity for discoloration and mold With tile it is also important that you have a solid subfloor that is level Any flexibility in the subfloor or uneven surfaces can lead to cracking in your tiles

Vinyl flooring is always an inexpensive choice for kitchen flooring With the wide variety of designs and patterns, you can even find vinyl looking that looks like tile or wood While it may not provide the rich look of wood or stone, it will certainly hold up to the wear and tear

So when you are getting ready to pick the flooring for your kitchen, it is important to think about more than how it coordinates with your kitchen cabinets and countertops By thinking about how your kitchen will be used and choosing your materials based on that, you can ensure that your flooring will not only look beautiful, but also hold up to your busy lifestyle

Considering The Right Catering Equipment For Your Kitchen

June 19th, 2009 by admin

Author : Dominic Donaldson

You have decided to go for it That dream you have always had of one day owning your own restaurant or cafe bar has finally become a reality Too many nights sat in front of the TV watching The F Word or Jamie Oliver has overwhelmed you with a wave of inspiration to feel the buzz of your own kitchen In your mind you have picked the commercial venue, hired the staff, planned the opening party and developed the specials menu However before any of this becomes a practical reality, you have the small task of refurbishing the entire venue into a fully functioning commercial establishment

The catering equipment required for your eatery is imperative to the successful running of your business Having the right equipment to serve the correct dishes to the correct number of diners will be one of the most important decisions you make while preparing for your grand opening so it is worth investing in the professionals to help you make the right choices

The first thing to consider when choosing your catering equipment is the type of food you will be serving If you are opening a sandwich bar, you won’t be needing pizza ovens and hog dog machines Similarly, if you are opening a fast food restaurant, you probably won’t need pasta boilers or latte machines Think carefully about the equipment you will need and the how this will be accommodated by the layout and size of your premises

It is easy to get carried away when considering your options Before you start purchasing your catering equipment for its colour or its style, always be sure to consider its practicality first

Similarly the number of guests you anticipate on serving must be taken into consideration when buying your catering equipment If you are planning on seating one hundred guests a night, you may need to think about purchasing more than one compact oven If you are opening a small coffee shop, you probably won’t need to buy five six grid ovens

To help you make these decisions, it is advisable to consider hiring a Project Manager Check out their references and make yourself familiar with their previous work Once you are satisfied with their credentials, the role of your project manager will be to conduct a survey of the premises, advising on any work needs to be carried out and by whom They will advise what catering equipment will be required for your market and go through your options with you

It is also important that the installation of any commercial catering equipment is undertaken by a registered Corgi (the Council of Registered Gas Installers) engineer as certificates of installation are required by law They will oversee the safety of all gas installation work You also need to consider the installation of electrical appliances, wiring and electrical power supply General health and safety issues must be addressed such as considering disabled access, fire exit accessibility and the presence of first aid kits

Once the essential work has been carried out by the professionals, you can start to have fun yourself adding the interior touches to your kitchens, from toasters, to kettles, to coffee machines or juicers

The installation of catering equipment is an essential but also fun part to preparing your eatery With so many options and so many possibilities, all it takes to achieve the perfect fit is a little research Make sure the kitchen doesn’t just look good, make sure its practical, safe and suits all your commercial needs

Pick A Professional When Remodeling

June 19th, 2009 by admin

Author : Paula Cherrist

So you ve made the big decision to remodel your kitchen or bath and have crunched all the numbers you want to spend and know what new appliances, cabinets, counters, vanities, fixtures or flooring you want to replace You know what colors work for you and goes with the rest of your condo or house Now after deciding all that, you think the hard work on your part is done Wrong You need to put just as much, if not more, effort into finding a professional to do the actual remodeling or construction work That is assuming you aren t handy enough to do it yourself

You don t want to spend a significant amount of money on new finishes and materials only to have them installed wrong or possibly ruined Skimping on who you get to actually do the work could jeopardize the entire project A reliable professional will quote you a fair price and time estimate as well as be willing to provide references, both in the form of previous happy customers as well as finished projects that ideally you could visit and see for yourself

Many owners of Chicago condos and single family homes are opting to renovate as opposed to buy a new property It not only improves the living experience of the home owner, but makes the real estate more valuable should it ever be sold There are also some new developments and rehab projects where you can buy an as is or unfinished unit for a reduced price and do the finishing yourself You can shop around or check with some of the developers listed here http://www bestchicagocondos com/condo developers/index html for any available units waiting to be sold as is

The National Kitchen and Bath Association projects that an estimated 6 9 million kitchens will be remodeled in 2008 That amount of jobs is certain to attract both qualified professionals as well as amateur carpenters looking to make a quick buck Trying to save on your contractor fees so you can spend more on fixtures is never a good idea And if you also need someone to guide you though the process of actual design, then it s even more important to find someone who has experience and is trustworthy There are a few basic steps you can take and questions you can ask to be as assured as you can that the designer or contractor you hire is a professional and will do a good job for a fair price

Word of mouth may be the best way to find a professional to help you with your remodeling project in your condo or home There is probably no better advertising than a happy customer who tells friends or family and gives a glowing recommendation about work they ve had done So if you know anyone who has had a good experience with a remodeling job, ask their opinion and to see the finished room Most people will be more than happy to show off their new kitchen or bath and you can get a really good first hand look at the designer or carpenter s work

If you don t have any personal recommendations, then the next place to start looking is for locally advertised contractors or designers Keeping it local is better because you won t have to drive a long distance to meet with them or see their showroom if they have one, and you ll be able to check out references much easier Even your local hardware store, furniture store or lumber supplier may be able to provide you with the names of some professionals

Once you ve settled on two or three different professionals, take the time to meet with each and see what they have to offer A design specialist should be able to come up with several different suggestions and not box you into one look for your kitchen or bath He or she should also be willing to work with you and not force ideas, but provide suggestions on how to achieve the look you want for the price you are willing or able to pay A design specialist should ask enough questions to get a feel for what you are trying to accomplish with your project and be able to show you samples of paint, fabrics, fixtures or furniture and know how to take measurements

On the construction side, if any is involved, a good contractor will be able to also take measurements and give you a written estimate of the cost of materials and labor plus have written proof of licensing and insurance A written agreement should also be in place that sets some sort of standard about pricing should the project run over the estimated time frame or something unexpected come up and more materials and supplies need to me purchased

Finally, as simple as it may sound, finding a professional you can get along with is almost as important as finding one who is qualified Needless to say, it is difficult to work with someone you don t like Remodeling your kitchen or bath should be a fun and exciting experience, not a do it yourself nightmare or design disaster

Sprucing Up The Heart Of Your Home

For many, the kitchen is the heart of the home Kitchens are also one of the most important selling points for those purchasing real estate Remodeling your kitchen can add years of pleasure to the utilization of the home, in addition to an increased selling price when you decide to put it on the market It's important though to have a good plan and a budget before you start your new design Spending a smaller amount of money cleverly can be far more gratifying than spending a great quantity of money on upgrades that don't truly add convenience or style Previous to beginning, take the time to buy remodeling magazines and look at several websites that detail the latest in kitchen décor Just like fashion trends, kitchen designs change with the times Conservative color schemes and floor plans will date your kitchen even if the paint and appliances are new

Even people with small pocketbooks can enhance and update the appearance of their kitchens New drawer hardware and new drawer facings can immediately freshen up a kitchen Be cautious of painting or staining your cabinets, because modern color and finish trends will change in the future It can cost a lot to totally renovate your cabinetry Painting the kitchen walls is another fantastic way to bring the room up-to-date right away If you're handy with wallpaper and stenciling, these types of upgrades are relatively easy to redo later Kitchen window curtains really change the look of a room Refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers and ovens are expensive items, but well-chosen appliances are a wonderful investment Colorful appliances may be eye-catching but they soon go out of fashion Stainless steel is a current trend that may wear well, both as an appliance and as a design statement

Although it doesn't appear like it would be true, remodeling on an boundless budget can be just as stressful as remodeling on an inadequate budget You can get caught up in the remodeling procedure when you have an unlimited budget and end up making too many additions Your kitchen can end up remodeled but not enhanced Some of the fashionable options like a big island with a preparation sink or a very cold refrigerator may seem like a wonderful idea, but they may not match your kitchen well or into the overall design of the kitchen You also want to avoid making your kitchen excessively cluttered, as this can really take away from the functional use of the kitchen

You may want to think about hiring a kitchen design professional to mix your ideas into a cohesive whole A big kitchen remodeling project includes plumbing and electrical work as well as painting and carpentry Professional kitchen designers will manage all of these elements They usually have craftsmen whom they work with on a regular basis In addition, credentialed designers may be able to get discounts on paint, cabinets and even appliances Research and planning are the keys to a victorious kitchen remodel, no matter how big your budget is Taking time to develop a plan and budget on the front end of a kitchen remodeling project will yield a gratifying and valuable final result

Home Remodeling Projects For Pet Owners

June 18th, 2009 by admin

Author : Jim Brown

Depending on the size of a dog, there might be a greater need for a homeowner to plan a remodeling project in the back yard of the home rather than inside the home If the dog continually digs up grass in the backyard the homeowner might find it necessary to contain the animal when they are not at home They might also want to build a dog pen if they find that the waste from the dog discolors the grass and kills some of it

The home remodeling projects for pet owners might allow them to enjoy their indoor and outdoor living spaces more if there were places that could keep an animal from intruding on them A dog run will require the homeowner to select a specific area in the yard that is devoted to the sole use of the dog There are many attractive pens that can be built that make perfect designer remodeling projects that the entire family will ultimately enjoy in the long run

These home remodeling projects will also keep their pet safe when they are not at home and not allow them to run free where they could be hit by an automobile or injured in some other way A dog run will also provide a sense of peace to the home because the dogs barking will not be as loud when the decorative sound barriers are installed Animals will always have water if the dog run is equipped with these devices and cleaning the area of waste is just a scooper tool or hose away

Some remodeling projects for homeowners will allow them to wash and bathe their animal from the comfort of the interior of their home and not out in the bright sun where things are hot enough to cook an egg on the ground Homeowners can install shower stalls around the back door area and drain the soapy water into the neighborhood drainage system Pets will no longer have fleas if they are washed in this manner and the homeowner will be freed up from having to call an exterminator periodically as flea season approaches

Some remodeling projects for homeowners with pets are very minor but will help the homeowner a lot by giving them a opening in the back door for letting the dog out of the house when they need to relieve themselves There are many safety features offered in doggy doors today and homeowners will now have time to enjoy the fully wired stereo systems that they have recently remodeled in their homes Dogs will also be barred from disturbing a homeowner while they are inside a Jacuzzi that is located on the porch with the new barriers installed that keep dogs away

Remodeling Your Kitchen on a Budget

June 18th, 2009 by admin

Author : John Rutledge

Remodeling your kitchen is often a massive undertaking that s expensive, extensive and exhausting Having the materials you need on site at the start of a project is going to save you both time and money, while buying the right products will save you money in the future

With proper planning and purchasing, you can do it You simply need the right knowledge to tackle the job with confidence

To learn how to buy what you need for your kitchen remodeling, keep reading for 7 tips on the right materials to order and how to get them quickly and cheaply

1 Always ask for the builder s discount

Don t be afraid to ask a supplier for a builder s discount If he can t give it to you, look elsewhere or ask your contractor to do the purchasing for you Builders and contractors can save anywhere from 20 60 on the cost of their materials

2 Go right to the supplier

This mantra holds especially true for tiling Remember, an inexpensive tile will cost you about $2 per square foot, $8 $20 for more upscale materials like ceramic and granite and up to $50 or more for hand painted or high end tiling

Going directly to the supplier or a tile warehouse means you can save big money on overstocks and returned or canceled orders, saving yourself anywhere from $5 $30 per square foot

Buying direct from the supplier or an outlet retailer also means you can usually take the product home right then and there No long waits for back orders to finally come in

3 Go custom made

It s surprising, but you can actually save a lot of money by having your cabinets custom made by a local carpenter Have a look through commercial catalogs to get an idea of cabinet designs and layouts that you like

Then get quotes from at least three carpenters and have the cabinets of your dreams custom made You can order them unfinished and then paint and lacquer them yourself

4 Look for a multi flow tap

Many taps and faucets on the market today are available in dual flow or tri flow format, meaning they come equipped with changeable water filters Using one of these, you can eliminate the need for bottled water or cumbersome purification systems

5 Know your counter tops

If marble or granite counter tops are out of your financial reach, try products like Corian or Formica, which are both known for being hardy and scratch resistant Luxore is a new product that s non porous and heat resistant, meaning you can put your hot pots right on the counter

Finally, Swanstone is another new alternate stone product which provides a seamless and moisture resistant surface that s easy to install

6 Save in the right places

You can usually save money on items like sink basins, cabinetry hardware, faucets, lighting and discounted appliances By looking for areas where you can safely save money, you ll free up more money for your splurge fund

7 Buy energy efficient appliances

Just as it s important to splurge in the right places, energy efficient appliances are another great investment You ll not only be living a greener lifestyle, but you ll be saving money on future water, gas and electricity bills In expensive times, these appliances pay for themselves very quickly Remember to go for the stainless steel

Choosing the Right Mantel for Your Fireplace

June 18th, 2009 by admin

Author : Lawrence J. Reaves

If you have a fireplace in your home, then odds are it already has a mantel But if you are building a new home with a fireplace, then choosing a mantel should be an important decision for you You may also be stuck with a mantel that you are not happy with and are looking to replace it Whatever your situation, there is sure to be the perfect fireplace mantel out there for you

The first thing that you need to take into consideration when buying a fireplace mantel is the measurements of your specific fireplace Buying a mantel that is the wrong size for your fireplace will be a costly mistake; as most mantels must be custom sized per order they will not be considered returnable If you use the wrong measurements then you are stuck with it For this reason we always suggest that you triple measure It’s also not a bad idea to use some masking tape and, using the dimensions that the finished mantel will be, tape it out on your walls so that you can see exactly how it will sit This could save you a great deal of time, money, and frustration

The next thing that you will have to do is decide on the style of mantel that you would like What you need to do is choose a style that already fits the decor of your living room Whatever the design of your living room, be it modern, traditional, or whatever, make sure that your mantel reflects this You also need to consider what type of wood you would like to have your mantel made out of Today’s most popular choices are oak, birch, or MDF When you are deciding the style of mantel and the material that it is to be constructed of, try to find something that compliments the rest of the room

Once you have decided on the style, size, and wood type you will also need to decide if you want the mantel to be finished for you or if you would prefer to do the finishing or painting yourself If you have a very specific stain color in mind it may be best for you to do the work yourself However, of you are only choosing to paint the piece you can save a great deal of time by having it delivered pre-finished

Select a mantel today and in no time you can enjoy the adding warmth and appeal it will add to your fireplace, your room, and your overall home

How To Get On The First Rung Of The Property Ladder

June 17th, 2009 by admin

Author : Harwood E

Because of the economic climate that we are living in at the moment more and more young adults are finding it increasing difficult to get on the first rung of the housing ladder without putting themselves in massive debt This is a real problem as the housing market needs to have new buyers coming on board regularly to keep the market buoyant This situation is a hang over from about 5 years ago when we had our last housing boom with prices shooting up by over 60 per cent in some areas, of course this is great news if you are already on the housing ladder but if you are yet to buy your first home these price rises make it increasing difficult to do so Unlike many Central European countries the young adults of this country want to move out of home as soon as possible and learn to stand on their own two feet but with the way house prices are this is impossible for the majority So how can we resolve this problem and what can be done to help young adults find their independence?

Most of us looked forward immensely to having our own home and independence away from our parents, nothing against being with our parents it was just that we needed to experience life for ourselves This independence gives you a better sense of responsibility and helps you to mature into the big wide world, a world that you never really understand when you reside with your mother and father But even living at home you can afford a young adult a certain amount of independence by giving them their own section of the house as their own With this in mind many people are building an extension onto the side of their home and turning it into a mini apartment, fully equipped with everything that you could possibly need to survive on your own If you can create this extension with it's own front door away from the main house then even better still If adding an extension is not an option for you can always look to create the second best alternative by converting your loft space into a fully equipped, self contained flat

Although converting your loft space into a self contained flat may be cheaper and easier to achieve than an extension on the side of your home you may not be able to create the total feeling of independence that your young adult requires, but if it is the only option then you have to make the most of it It is possible to completely personalize your loft conversion to give it the feel of a stand alone flat with the addition of special loft furniture, designed to fit perfectly into a smaller living space and give the feeling of the room being larger than it is For those of you with a taste for fine furniture you need not worry as you can get some top quality loft furniture for reasonable prices, even pieces such as Italian leather loft furniture can be priced very competitively to give that designer flat feel to a loft conversion

So even without a young adult being able to afford their own home you can still give them that feeling of independence as well as them learning about the responsibilities that go with owning their own property

6 Steps To Having An Organized Kitchen

June 17th, 2009 by admin

Author : Joshua Spaulding

Nothing is more frustrating than having a cluttered kitchen with appliances and books and papers everywhere It makes it difficult to find things and many times defeats the purpose of a kitchen Here are 6 steps you can take to have an organized kitchen

1 Purpose

The first step is identifying the purpose of your kitchen For most people it is a place to store food and eat in If that is your case as well, then why do you have books and papers and pens scattered all over the place? Take all of the unrelated items out of the kitchen and move them to a different room

2 Separate into categories

Within a kitchen lie several different categories that can help you organize the room You will have your cookware, appliances, kitchen tools, utensils and so on Take everything in your kitchen and separate it into piles with the major categories This will take time, but the finished product will be well worth it

3 Save the necessary

After separating everything into categories, sort through what you really need and what is just taking up space Do you really need four cake pans considering you make a cake once every few months? Throw away any doubles unless you use them frequently and get rid of all old appliances that are never used

4 Storing

Now that you know what you are going to save for your kitchen, begin considering where to store it You will want to look at where certain items will fit, how frequently you use the different categories, and where the appliance will be used in the kitchen

5 Purchase space savers

There is never enough room in a kitchen to store everything you want to Because of this, splurge and purchase a few space savers for your kitchen such as pull out cabinet organizers, wall rack systems and steel expanding shelves You can find all of these things at Bed Bath and Beyond or home improvement stores

6 Admire your job

It may take time to organize, but the finished product will be a well-organized kitchen You will be able to easily find what you are looking for and it will be less cluttered By throwing out doubles and unused products and moving unrelated products to a different room, you will no longer have to deal with the hassles of searching through hundreds of things to get that one bowl for salad that you are looking for Now you can go to the kitchen and quickly find what you are looking for and begin cooking and eating with ease

When you want to remodel your home, you need to know what you want and how you want it to look like You can do your kitchen, bedroom, bathroom or bathrooms and any other part of your home It can cost a lot but if you need it done, then you have to do it or you will run into problems in the future When you want to remodel the inside of your home, then you will need to get new boards for your floors, tiles or dry wall paper for the walls, new counters, and new cabinets But first you need to gut it all out so you can fix it or to make it better than before

Making your house different is as easy as 1, 2, 3 All you have to do is get someone to do it for you or get a book and do it yourself But you have to do it right or it will not come out like it is supposed to If you do something like that then you have to get a professional out there and fix the problem and that will cost you even more It is good to have a professional there so you do not hit anything that you are not supposed to and get in trouble for it You can make it however you want it to look like You can make the room wider or longer with a taller ceiling or not You can make one of the walls push out in a curved way, or you can put a balcony for your rooms or just one room in the front of your home This is how you can put the fire back in your home

You need to have all the right tools for this kind of job It is hard work but the end result is worth the effort You will need gloves, safety glasses, and safety hats so you don’t get hurt in the process This is dangerous work because something can fall on you or hit you on the head You can fall on your back and damage something serious, smash your fingers, or cripple other parts of your body The possibilities of injury are endless Keep kids away from these areas at all times because they can get hurt really bad by nails and other stuff that is there You will love what you have done to your home It will look so beautiful that your friends will love to look at it You will feel great knowing that you did a great job on your home

Kitchen Novelty Rugs for Your Home

June 17th, 2009 by admin

Author : Chris Schwebius

Kitchen novelty rugs are more than just something that will absorb spills off the floor They are a bold style statement that will add panache and zing to your existing, unexciting kitchen area They are capable of turning a dull and dowdy room into an exciting and awe-inspiring one It is all in the style you adopt The choices are so many that you would have to have very strong self-control not to buy them all Available in an array of shapes, prints, patterns, designs and qualities, they range from very low priced to extremely expensive ones The fabrics are wool, cotton, silk, chenille or leather Of course, while picking a kitchen novelty rug, you would have to keep the material such that it can be washed easily, is stain-resistant and durable

Specially designed for the kitchen are kitchen novelty rugs patterned in vegetable collages, fruit medleys, even salt and pepper celler motifs They come in a myriad variety of colors and hues and so you can pick one that matches your decor You could also buy any one that appeals to you and try and fit it into your neutral interiors Since these rugs are so affordable, you can get a new one when you get fed up or bored of the one you have! You could also change them with the changing seasons!

Apart from motifs, kitchen novelty rugs also come in interesting shapes You could have a nice big strawberry or melon sitting in your kitchen sprucing it up If you prefer more of a vintage theme, you could probably get a rug depicting a wine bottle complete with label and cork! If you are a movie enthusiast, you would probably find the ‘movie posters collage’ type of kitchen novelty rug irresistible and if you are a sports fan, then not only can you get a rug with a suitable pattern but can also find a football shaped rug! If you entertain in your eat-in kitchen, these rugs serve as an attention-grabbing conversation piece too! That is beauty with purpose

There is another out of the ordinary thing you could do with your kitchen novelty rug and that is to take it to the wall! Yes, they make good wall hangings too! You can pick up a rug, which has hooks on the end, and hang them with these The walls will perk up with such innovative use of kitchen novelty rugs Novelty rugs are just as the name suggests- novel

Well, you have now decided on the rug, purchased it and even spread it out but the secret of keeping the kitchen novelty rug looking good as new is to maintain it with care Though they are machine washable most of the times, it may be a good idea to hand-wash them separately the first few times This way you can determine if the colors are fast and there is no fear of other clothes in the machine becoming discolored! When using them on the floor, ideally, the rugs should have some sort of a rug pad which will extend the life of the rug and provide an anti-slipping protection too

Do You Need To Update Your Kitchen Cabinets Here s How

June 17th, 2009 by admin

Author : Tim Evans

Is your kitchen cabinets old and outdated? Painting your kitchen cabinets is a excellent way to add new life to your kitchen without the cost of purchasing new cabinetry The most simple way to paint your kitchen cabinets is to leave the interior of the cabinets unpainted The interior is only seen when the cabinet doors are open, also it will allow you to leave all of the items inside the cabinets without having to remove them

The first thing you need to do when you decide to paint your kitchen cabinets is to make sure that your kitchen is well ventilated because the paint and primer both have strong fumes You may want to open your windows and place a fan close by in order to remove the fumes

Step 1 Remove all of the knobs, pulls and handles from the cabinets Cover all of your floors and counter tops using plastic covering You can remove the doors if you wish or you can leave the doors attached Cover all of the hinges on all of the doors using a masking tape

Step 2 Thoroughly clean all of the cabinetry using a mild detergent This is a very important step because if the cabinets are not cleaned thoroughly the primer or paint will not adhere properly Once the cabinets have completely dried, sand the cabinets using a fine grit sandpaper Sand the cabinets to a point where the finish is dull

Step 3 Apply a thin coat of an oil based primer to all of the cabinets If you have removed the doors, prime them first and then apply the primer to the remainder of the cabinets If you have left the doors attached, prime the fronts of the doors first and then open the doors and apply primer to the backs of the doors

Step 4 Once the primer has fully dried, use a brush and roller and apply the paint in the same method that you applied the primer Be careful and don’t overload the cabinet with paint so that you can avoid runs and sagging It is much better to apply two thin coats of paint instead of one heavy coat Allow the paint to fully dry and check for any runs or areas that are sagging If you have any trouble spots, use a fine grit sandpaper and lightly sand At this point you can determine it you need any additional coats of paint If not, just touch up the areas that you have sanded Once the cabinets have fully dried, reattach all of the cabinet hardware

Step 5 The final step is to clean your brushes and rollers For the brushes that you have used in any oil based product, you will need to clean your tools with mineral spirits For any brushes or rollers that you have used in latex, you will need to clean them with water

It is a tough job to paint cabinets but the benefits are well worth the time and effort that you invest in it, plus you will save a lot of money over new cabinetry

Buying A New Home Often Requires Minimal Remodeling Repairs

June 16th, 2009 by admin

Author : Jim Brown

A home might seem structurally sound if a visual inspection was done before the home was purchased, but there are many home remodeling repairs that might have defects that will not show up for years Homeowners are finding their dreams destroyed when they begin to notice small cracks in the ceilings and walls, and this type of damage might require replacement of the interior walls of the home

Home remodeling repairs that are small will have very little effect to the structural integrity of a home but they can still affect the value of the home A homeowner might install a new bathroom sink and find that insufficient caulking around the outer edges has caused the sink to leak This type of home repair can cause additional damage to the underlying cabinetry and some homeowners ignore these leaks until the cabinets begin to show water damage with swollen planks and uneven edges

Some home remodeling repairs will be made to the surface of hardwood floors The homeowner might have wanted to completely resurface the wood but to save funds, the homeowner chooses a cheaper route by adding stains and a varnish that turned out later to be water soluble and was marred each time the homeowner mopped the floor or exposed it to any type of water Replacing hardwood floors can be an expensive task but if the correct resurfacing methods are used, the home remodeling project would last for years

The cost of making home repairs can be reduced significantly if routine maintenance tasks are performed on machinery and household appliances The heating and air conditioning system might last many years past its life expectancy guidelines if the homeowner replaced air filters each month and scheduled a seasonal check of all moving parts with a certified technician Otherwise, the homeowner may have no choice but to initiate some large-scale repairs that will be quite expensive

Water leaks from faulty plumbing fixtures might motivate the homeowner into completing home remodeling repairs to several levels of the home Searching for the leak might require a homeowner to dig up the front yard, or climb under a porch The search for the leak might require several holes to be cut in several interior walls and this type of adventure will cause home remodeling repairs to occur that can accrue a lot of remodeling before the leak is found and repaired

Home remodeling repairs can be simplified if the homeowner is knowledgeable about the techniques used to repair various things Home remodeling repairs can be accomplished faster if the homeowner has the tools necessary to remove valves, and tighten nuts and bolts on heating and air conditioning units outside Home remodeling repairs can be simpler if the homeowner knows where to find inexpensive replacement parts for toilets or creates a list that will list all of the model numbers for motors inside the home

All this information will prove useful one day or the homeowner can continue to ignore things when they break down and home remodeling repair can escalate into an outage of bathroom services that will inconvenience everyone in the house before repairs are finished

Using a barstool set in the kitchen is a great way to save space and incorporate the use of available countertop space and breakfast bar usage

The Heart of the Home

The kitchen is generally considered the heart of the home The meals are prepared in the midst of talking and laughing and fun times socialising with family and friends You can carry on conversations while sipping on a cup of tea or coffee, doing homework with children, and having heart to heart conversations Visiting of all types can be enjoyed over a steaming cup of hot chocolate All these occasions and more make an inviting and warm family kitchen the heart of the home

When you use a barstool set to allow more sitting space, create an inviting area for the family to gather, and add extra seating when friends visit, it will enhance the warmth and comfort of your home

Usage Options

The kitchen offers a few different options for arranging your barstool set If you have counter space that will allow setting up seating around it, this can be a great space saver It will also add a place to eat, play games, and visit with family and friends

Using the barstool area to do homework will help keep the table top clean for meal times When you use the kitchen for helping with homework, you make it possible to combine the tasks of cooking, baking, doing dishes, and answering questions about the studies of your children Besides the convenience of being able to get your work done while they get their work done, you will be creating a useful and inviting family area by making a welcome place for them to join you

Using your barstool set at a high table will create a new look and enhance meal time and game time with room to move around and sit up high Kids love being seated up high, and the view of everything going on around them will make it more likely that they will stay seated longer

Barstool Options

If your kitchen area is small, you may want to choose a barstool set that is adjustable or foldable Adjustable barstools offer the convenience of being modifiable for height This will make moving them from one area to another easier; they can be raised or lowered to fit different heights

Folding barstool sets offer the advantage of being stored easily Easy storage makes putting them away and setting them up quick and simple to do Using them only when needed for extra seating or for specific tasks such as homework, or a game night with the family, will be made easier by the storage options

Using a barstool set in the kitchen can be an addition to your home that will enhance your lifestyle and family life Inviting a closeness that will encourage conversation, being together, and socialising with each other, a barstool set up can do what other furniture options may not be able to

Making your kitchen a warm and inviting place that will truly be the heart of your home may be only a small change away Setting up an area for bar stool usage may be just the change it needs

Creative Home Remodeling Ideas For Garages

June 16th, 2009 by admin

Author : Jim Brown

Some people have no use for the double garage portion of their home Their homes are equipped with protection from the wind on both sides and the distance is relatively short to the back door should a downpour occur at any moment The homeowners have some creative home remodeling ideas for garages that they want to use to give them better use of the space that a automobile would typically use

Many exercise enthusiasts can envision a home gym in the place where the automobile used to be parked They can see bright and cheery colors being painted on the wall to encourage them to exercise to a higher degree of fitness They can also see their exercise equipment spread out with enough room to extend legs and stretch all parts of the body without having to worry about ever running into their exercise partner

Other people have a passion for plants and need space to grow them to share with their best friends and their little business that they operate on the internet The creative home remodeling projects would completely remove the garage from the home and create an indoor living environment that is perfect for plants to grow in The remodeled space would have plant lights hung by the ceilings and tables for potting the plants and others for them to sit on and grow

Many garages can be converted to be warehouses for home businesses The creative home remodeling projects that they plan will include a shipping department that is a step away from where the inventory is stored on shelves A computer system can be installed in a built-in cabinet to keep dust and dirt from damaging the electronic equipment This space will reap the homeowner great rewards on their income tax as a space devoted to business and not to be used solely to house an automobile

Some people consider garages to be living spaces that have not been finished Even if the garage doors are never removed, homeowners are finding creative ways to disguise them Some homeowners paint the doors with floral arrays and arches and turn the space into a Grecian garden spot complete with hot tub and sauna These are delightful places for couples to spend quite evenings and enjoy the evening sunset white seated in comforting waters of a brand new Jacuzzi tub

Some couples settle for half the space in the garage to do the things that they want to The man of the house will usually use one side to store the riding lawnmower, hoses and various tools that he uses to remodel the home with There can be a divider wall installed in these spaces to hide the clutter from guests, and the other side can be used for creative interests such as painting or quilting projects and a large mixture of other things that are of interest to the opposite sex
