Because of the economic climate that we are living in at the moment more and more young adults are finding it increasing difficult to get on the first rung of the housing ladder without putting themselves in massive debt This is a real problem as the housing market needs to have new buyers coming on board regularly to keep the market buoyant This situation is a hang over from about 5 years ago when we had our last housing boom with prices shooting up by over 60 per cent in some areas, of course this is great news if you are already on the housing ladder but if you are yet to buy your first home these price rises make it increasing difficult to do so Unlike many Central European countries the young adults of this country want to move out of home as soon as possible and learn to stand on their own two feet but with the way house prices are this is impossible for the majority So how can we resolve this problem and what can be done to help young adults find their independence?

Most of us looked forward immensely to having our own home and independence away from our parents, nothing against being with our parents it was just that we needed to experience life for ourselves This independence gives you a better sense of responsibility and helps you to mature into the big wide world, a world that you never really understand when you reside with your mother and father But even living at home you can afford a young adult a certain amount of independence by giving them their own section of the house as their own With this in mind many people are building an extension onto the side of their home and turning it into a mini apartment, fully equipped with everything that you could possibly need to survive on your own If you can create this extension with it's own front door away from the main house then even better still If adding an extension is not an option for you can always look to create the second best alternative by converting your loft space into a fully equipped, self contained flat

Although converting your loft space into a self contained flat may be cheaper and easier to achieve than an extension on the side of your home you may not be able to create the total feeling of independence that your young adult requires, but if it is the only option then you have to make the most of it It is possible to completely personalize your loft conversion to give it the feel of a stand alone flat with the addition of special loft furniture, designed to fit perfectly into a smaller living space and give the feeling of the room being larger than it is For those of you with a taste for fine furniture you need not worry as you can get some top quality loft furniture for reasonable prices, even pieces such as Italian leather loft furniture can be priced very competitively to give that designer flat feel to a loft conversion

So even without a young adult being able to afford their own home you can still give them that feeling of independence as well as them learning about the responsibilities that go with owning their own property
