A homeowner can enhance the beauty and value of the home just by making some natural additions to home remodeling projects These remodeling projects can begin outdoors but can enter the home with a little creativity and some remodeling know how Natural additions to the home can come from family, friends or the local home building supply house and some will be low or have no cost associated with them

A homeowner can change the appearance of every room in the home by remodeling the surfaces of the walls A typical application that is easy to accomplish is by adding texture to the walls in several rooms These textures are achieved by mixing natural substances such as wood that is found on the beach with concrete A homeowner can choose to stain this wood to blend in with the home interiors colors or they can be left in their natural state to simulate a oceanic atmosphere that is very livable and enjoyable to be in

Using plants throughout the home is the easiest home remodeling project around A homeowner can select banana plants for decorating indoors, and if planted in convenient sized pots, these plants can be moved outdoors to make parties and other celebrations more decorative and enjoyable Potted plants can also be used to camouflage areas that are bare and make the room seem like it has been under the care of a fashion designer who was born with a green thumb that others can rave about

With the addition of wood columns throughout the home, it might remodel the room completely with just a small amount of work These columns can be painted in many colors and can be used to create magical doorways between the kitchen and other living spaces in the home If placed in the bathroom, the remodeling project could turn an oval tub into a relaxing environment that everyone enjoys using The use of natural woods in the home can also extend to the kitchen remodeling project too

If extra storage space is needed, a homeowner could go natural and install kitchen cabinets that are made of polished woods They might consider doing a home remodeling project that includes hardwood floors in coordinating color contrasts that creates a whole new living space The home appliances can be recessed behind these natural wood surfaces and some doors can be converted to wood to create a total look that is a home remodeling dream project

A great deal of artistic expression can be displayed with the use of natural additions like shrubs and grass A homeowner can sculpt and shape flower beds and plant a varied amount of flowers that will bloom annually or at specific times of the year The home can be encased in color throughout the year and make the home a very inviting place to visit A homeowner can plant grass in several methods and see the result of their efforts throughout the year They can install a natural fence by planting shrubs in a row along one side of the house, and accent the yard with a solid wood fence on the other side

What does your office say about your business? This article will provide you with tips for remodeling your office to create a unique workspace that will electrify your employees and impress prospective clients Specifics may vary from business to business; however, the following information includes helpful and important guidelines from which everyone can benefit

A professionally remodeled office can increase the value of your business dramatically, and not just in terms of equity Your office makes an impression, but its impact - positive or negative - is up to you

When your employees show up for work, do they see a dry, boring workspace filled with gray walls and cubicles? Or do they see bright walls and open workspace that inspires creativity and engagement? The design of your office can literally be the difference between a highly productive workforce that enjoys coming to work and a group of people who show up and do what they need to do to get by

Now take a moment and think about what your prospective clients see when they walk in the door? What is their first impression? Do they see a business that scraped together some desks and chairs? Or do they see a business that put time into their workspace and their employees to create an office environment that stimulates growth? Chances are if you look like you know what you’re doing to them, you probably do

Remodeling your office could be just what you need to turn things around A professional office designer will work with you to assess your entire office and then provide you with a design that makes everything flow perfectly But first you need to decide on what’s right for you and your employees Here are some design features that you should consider:

Color Schemes

All too often, offices are just boring spaces with neutral furniture and neutral walls There is nothing about neutral decor that sparks creativity! Adding contrasting colors to your office, whether they are in the form of a few cleverly placed brightly colored chairs or eye-popping accent walls, will add some life to your office space Contrast can be very powerful It can be used to break up a large space or draw attention Contrasting colors can be bold, or they can be soft and subtle It all depends on how you use them

Solid colors can also create different feelings in people For instance, light yellow is said to stimulate intellect and encourage communication, while dark blue represents knowledge, power and integrity Monochromatic color schemes can also be used to create a different sense in your office environment They impart a sophisticated feel with a look of uniformity Plus, if you use the same base color for all the walls, the rooms will flow together as one

Furniture and Lighting

Believe it or not, furniture and lighting are two of the most important aspects of office design Quality office lighting is a necessity Studies have shown that light can impact people in many ways: physically, physiologically and psychologically Poor lighting can negatively affect overall performance - especially in the workplace Office lighting should accomplish more than just the task of providing light It should be controllable at all times, energy efficient, maintainable, well-integrated, cost efficient and accommodating to any project

Office furniture can truly be the difference between great productivity and just getting it done Think about it Sitting in the same chair for 8-10 hours can be oppressive if that chair is uncomfortable Ergonomics are important to your health especially if you plan to sit at your desk for long periods of time Also try choosing natural materials as much as possible including wooden desks, floors, shelving, filing cabinets and tables Not only is this better for the environment, it also creates a warm, inviting feeling in your office

Use these ideas to create a plan for remodeling your office Remember - a unique workspace will electrify your employees and impress prospective clients!

Damaging Home Value With Bad Makeovers And Renovations

June 13th, 2009 by admin

Author : Aydan Corkern

There has probably never been a time when home a home make over or renovation has been as popular as it is today People are changing their homes to suit their personal needs when they are not able to or do not want to go out and purchase a new place to live They sometimes believe that it is much easier and less expensive to make alterations to their current dwelling instead of making a move to some place new

This can be a less expensive way to go about getting a home that is perfect for you and there are a couple of different ways to go about getting it done The first way and one that many choose to use is to hire a professional to do the job and make sure it is done right It can cost more money to hire someone to do your remodeling for you, but you will be assured of a job well done in most cases and it is likely to take less time with fewer errors than if you try to do it your self

The second choice is to attempt to do your home make over or renovations This can many times save money of you are skillful enough in the area that you plan to implement Such as, if you are a good enough painter, you can do the job on your own and will probably be alright When you are not a good painter, you could actually end up making a bigger mess than a professional would and your end result might not be as good Painting is not always as easy as people think There are certain paints that are only good for certain surfaces There are many kinds of paints to choose from and you must know which particular kind is right for the job you are doing

When people decide to change the layout of there home on the inside, many times they have begun tearing out walls only to discover that there is electrical wiring to contend with and sometimes plumbing Once they make these discoveries, they might have no clue how to reroute these things and will end up calling in a professional anyway The other thing that might happen is that they compromise the structure of the home If this happens it can cause structural problems in the ceilings or roof This might end up costing you more money to have fixed or even lowering the value of your home instead of improving it When you think to make improvements in your home, first make sure they are going to be improvements and not end up being damaging to the value

Learning Home Remodeling Basics

June 12th, 2009 by admin

Author : James Brown

Even though many male homeowners are thought to be proficient at using tools to fix small items around the home, not all can handle the task of using tools that they have never used before Many building enthusiasts know that learning some home remodeling basics will be necessary to make the tools perform professionally in the hands of a novice builder Some homeowners will make the mistake of using tools without eye protection in place and this is the first home remodeling rule that will be learned after a certain amount of time

There is more to home remodeling than buying building materials and erecting walls, and if the tools used for home remodeling projects are used incorrectly, the homeowner could face additional repairs that were unplanned Severe injuries could occur during all phases of a home remodeling project, and homeowners will learn home remodeling basic rules that encourage homeowners to make sure the electrical current is off if performing wiring on any area that is inside and outside the home

It is important for homeowners to learn as much information as possible about home remodeling techniques before starting a project on their own The basics of home remodeling begin with working smarter but not harder Work will go faster if homeowners have a basic understanding about how wiring should look when it is fastened correctly If homeowners are installing flooring on many floor surfaces, the home remodeling basics would imply that all floor surfaces should be free of dust and dirt and dry to the touch so that all floor sealants will adhere properly

Other home remodeling basics would encourage homeowners to learn about the various grades of hardwood flooring, and all home projects are professionally finished if a homeowner takes the time to learn how wood floor slats fit together Learning how to use tools to trim corners and cut crown molding at the right angles are home remodeling basics that allow the homeowner to finish the work without the need of a carpenter or a building contractor These home remodeling basics will help homeowners save some money budgeted for one part of a home remodel and use the funds later for other remodeling projects that are planned

Many home remodeling basics are revisited before a homeowner begins hiring building contractors and other helpers One basic practice of many home remodelers is to review all purchase decisions more than once Changes occur many times when plans are in the process of being finalized, and homeowners who want to save money, make it a practice to review remodeling plan changes on a continual basis The purpose of reviewing the building plans and the list of building materials after the plans are final is to ensure that no monies are wasted on project items that were deleted along the way, but are still included the construction budget plan

Learning home remodeling basics will ensure that high quality building products are used at all times Many homeowners realize the importance of using top grade materials because substandard materials would devalue the home remodeling improvements and degrade the resale value of the home By learning some home remodeling basics, homeowners will know how to search for discounted prices on paint and determine if any sales merchandise is faulty or past the serviceable use date

Kitchen Cabinets 101 The Difference Between Stock Custom and RTA Cabinets

June 12th, 2009 by admin

Author : Gary Nealon

A local Home Depot or Lowes is usually the first place people look when they are ready to remodel or build their kitchen It’s easy access You can tell them what you want and they will lay everything out for you They usually have a wide range of styles to choose from, and the cost is significantly less then your typical custom cabinet company

High quality, custom kitchen cabinets can range anywhere from $20,000 - $100,000 for your average size kitchen Unfortunately, the majority of homeowners can not afford to pay $100,000 for a new kitchen

When it comes to remodeling a home or building one from the ground up, everybody is looking for a way save money You don’t want to sacrifice style for quality, but for the average person they have to find a happy medium to keep their renovation project within their budget

Aside from custom cabinets, most cabinet manufacturers and distributors today (even the private label brands at the big box stores) are acquiring their materials and products from factories overseas This reduces the cost per item by eliminating the labor cost, and allows them to pass some of the savings onto their customers However, the big retail stores still have the high overhead cost associated with brick and mortar stores

Most of these cabinets fall under the category of RTA cabinets or Ready-To-Assemble cabinets If you can turn a flat head screwdriver then you will be able to construct these cabinets in no time

The assembly is easy and the benefits are even better But, if you could save even more money by buying direct, and skipping the store, would you? Well now you can There is a new of distributors that are importing these cabinets and selling them direct to the consumer

Dellivery time or lead time is another big selling point of RTA kitchen cabinets If you compare the delivery time, quality and price of most RTA cabinets to a Lowes or a Home Depot, the RTA kitchen cabinets sell themselves Since Lowes and Home Depot do not keep the majority of their kitchen cabinets in stock, they have to make them accordingly to each order, which could take several weeks if not months

When purchasing RTA cabinets you are looking at about 8-10 business days for your order to be processed then around 2-4 days for shipping The quality comparison is even more convincing Your typical Lowes and Home Depot kitchen cabinets include multiple pieces made of particle board, which does not hold up well if you are not familiar with the material

Good RTA kitchen cabinets are made entirely of real wood The front of the each cabinet is made of solid wood and the sides are made of 1/2″ or 3/4″ finished plywood The shelves are also made of 1/2″ finished plywood along with the drawers as well

As mentioned earlier, these are RTA (ready to assemble) cabinets All that is needed to construct these cabinets is a flat head screwdriver in order to tighten the cam locks, which is a locking mechanism that is engaged with a simple twist of the wrist once two parts are fitted together

If you still need to be convinced that RTA kitchen cabinets are your best bet for well made affordable cabinets, the price comparison seals the deal A typical 10×10 kitchen at Lowe’s and Home Depot easily goes for $6-$10k That same estimate with RTA cabinets can be as little as $2-$4k

So by choosing RTA cabinets for your next kitchen remodel not only can you save thousands of dollars that can be well spent on other parts of the house or just simply saved, you are getting solid cabinets that look great

Homes get a lot of visitors throughout the day and the wear and tear from foot traffic can begin to degrade carpets and all of the interior surfaces of the home The outside of the home might suffer as well because plants and shrubbery can get brushed against and break limbs and degrade the appearance of the home dramatically at times Some home remodeling might be needed to protect certain areas of the home from the damages that occur when people visit

A homeowner might do some home remodeling in the garden by placing protective screens around young trees and vegetables that are growing in a garden on the side of the home Children can be very inquisitive and might be tempted to pick one or two before anyone can stop them but a barrier would keep those veggies growing until they are ripe and ready to eat

A gate might be added to the front fence to give people the opportunity to enter the backyard This easy access lessens the wear and tear on the carpeting and allows people to get to the back where barbeques and games are being played and they can listen to some background music with the newly wired stereo system the homeowner installed

The homeowner might create an outdoor party area with lots of benches used to give people a unique place to sit and visit This outside living area will also cut down on the wear and tear on the furniture inside the home The homeowner might choose to remodel the home with an outdoor kitchen so that cookouts will be fast and efficient with everything that visitors need within easy reach

Keeping Your Kitchen Renovation from Spiraling Out of Control

June 12th, 2009 by admin

Author : Gary Nealon

The industry experts will say that a kitchen remodel yields the highest return on investment of any room in the house The problem is when you are doing any renovation project, especially a kitchen remodel, it is very easy to get carried away and go way over your estimated budget The average kitchen remodel costs somewhere around $40,000 but can be as high as $100,000+ So how do you know if you are over spending on your kitchen renovation?

The first step is to take a look at comparable houses in your neighborhood Try to determine the value of your house relative to the other houses in your neighborhood If the average house in your neighborhood is worth $300,000 putting in a $100,000 won’t produce the return on investment that a $20,000 kitchen would So it is important to know the value of your house and the average selling price in the neighborhood While a high dollar kitchen may work well for you now, it may end up costing you money when you go to sell the house

Take the time to research contractors and materials Labor is going to be one of the most expensive components of your kitchen renovation Price it out to several different reputable contractors and try to bundle projects were possible to maximize the savings Any work you can do on your own will just add money to your bottom line Depending on how high end you are planning on going, the cabinets and countertops are going to be the next biggest investment (really high end appliances can also be up there) Shop around for your cabinets, and don’t snub your nose at lower priced cabinets Focus on the features and the quality of materials Ironically, some of the lower priced cabinets will have the same, if not better, quality as the name brand (the difference is, you are not paying for the high overhead)

When all else fails, call in an expert There is nothing wrong with calling in a real estate agent to get an idea of what your house is worth and what a remodel will do to the value A good real estate agent will be able to tell you a ballpark of what you should spend to stay within the price range of your local area

So before starting your kitchen remodel, take the time to do some research, come up with a solid plan, and stick to your budget If you can do that, you will not only get a great kitchen, but you will also add value to your house

Know What to Look For in a Good Air Duct Cleaning Service

June 11th, 2009 by admin

Most people aren’t very aware of how dirty the ducts of their heating and air conditioning systems can actually get, let alone what to look for in a company that will come in and perform the cleaning service for them Cleaning the air duct system of your home is not something that you have to worry about every six months or even every year, some families go much beyond this before having a service come out and take care of the cleaning for them

Dust, dirt, dead bugs and lord knows what else build up in your duct work over time and along with the changes in climate and levels of humidity; this can cause mold and mildew to form in the ducts of your system This is important to take care of, but what should you look for in an air duct cleaning service to know that you are getting the best company for the job

Firstly - you’ll want a company that’s licensed, bonded and insured This way you’ll be assured that the servicemen have been properly trained to perform the work that you need done and that, in the unlikely event that something should go wrong, that the business has the insurance to protect whatever property of yours happens to have been damaged An un-licensed contractor may very well quote you a lower price when it comes to servicing your heating and air conditioning system, but you’ll end up paying many times over when the job turns into disaster and there is no coverage for whatever happens to your home

Secondly - you’ll want a company that uses the proper equipment A good company will likely have the absolute state of the art air duct cleaning equipment on every service truck that they put on the road It requires a lot more than just a shop-vac to properly clean a heating and air conditioning system, you don’t want someone with shoddy ineffective equipment charging you money to simply go though the motions of the cleaning without really removing any of the dirt and filth that is clogging up your ducts

Thirdly - you’ll want to see references and testimonials of performance A lot of people ask a contractor for references, but then never check them - this is a very important step when it comes to hiring a contractor to do any type of work on your home A reference is the only way you can hear if the servicemen of the company that you are considering hiring do a good job, if they are professional and charge what their estimates say that they are going to charge Representatives of the company will tell you whatever you want to hear to get your money, if a company can’t provide at least five verifiable references of their work, than your should seriously think twice about hiring them

Last but not least, a certification If a service company is certified with the NADCA, or National Air Duct Cleaners Association, then you can rest assured that they are licensed and trained properly to perform the work on your heating and air conditioning system If you can’t find anyone that seems to be qualified or capable of doing the work that you want done in your home, then you can contact the NADCA and they will certainly recommend a licensed and insured contractor in your area that can handle the job

You should never hire an air duct cleaning service, or any other contractor for that matter, to do work in your house based solely on the fact that they have the best price There are many things that you need to consider before making your final decision - virtually all reputable service companies will give you a free estimate so you can get the best price, but just make sure that you settle for the best price from an air duct cleaning service that you can trust to do the work properly

Leader in air duct equipment and insulation blowing machine industry manufactures several different duct cleaning machines powered by gas, diesel and electric. For the quality you need, at a price you can afford, contact Heat Seal Equipment.

Ideas for Your Home Remodeling Project

June 10th, 2009 by admin

Author : Jim Brown

A homeowner will gain ideas for home remodeling from people that they know personally and professionally Many people will be remodeling several rooms at home and will comment about the progress that has been made from week to week and homeowners that want to do the same home remodeling project will usually listen very carefully to all that is said Good comments about a certain contractor might be enough to convince a homeowner to hire them to do their project

Some home remodeling ideas might come from the next door neighbor This homeowner might have had contractors coming and going from the residence for several weeks There will be noticeable differences in the exterior features of the home and the man next door might want to follow suit and apply those features in a small way to their home The ideas for remodeling the home might not be original but will help the home blend in with the neighborhood better

A center that sells building supplies is staffed with many people that specialize in many areas of home remodeling A homeowner might get a lot of ideas from the various displays that are located in various areas of the store Some of the displays might offer ideas on the various textures that are available for resurfacing walls, and others will have a varied amount of tile in many styles and materials that will certainly give a homeowner an idea of how these products would look once they were installed in their own residence

A health club might give a homeowner an idea for creating a luxurious retreat in their home They will begin considering the home remodeling projects that could turn their bathroom into a spa experience that entails using whirlpool spas in one section and the installation of a steam sauna in another The homeowner might discover other ways to build a luxurious shower that mimics the showers at the health club that surround each bather with water sprays from every angle

For a kitchen remodeling project, the ideas might come from the people that spend the most time in the space A cook is certainly going to expound a great deal of information about the type of home appliances that would work best for the cooking style that is done most For some cooks, this type of appliance might require remodeling the exhaust systems to allow charcoal grills to be used indoors A dream of many homeowners is completely remodeling the kitchen They get ideas from the home remodeling shows on the family television

Some homeowners get remodeling projects for the yard from parks and recreation areas that are located near their homes They can see the long term effects of sculpting flower beds and removing weeds from the land They can monitor the success rate for the plants growing in soil that was boosted by peat moss and those growing from pots or those that rely on only the good Earth to receive their nourishment They can do some homework on landscaping at the local library and learn the best way to use plants to achieve a totally different look for the home with the careful placement of trees and other shrubs

Home Remodeling Projects For Pet Owners

June 10th, 2009 by admin

Author : Jim Brown

Depending on the size of a dog, there might be a greater need for a homeowner to plan a remodeling project in the back yard of the home rather than inside the home If the dog continually digs up grass in the backyard the homeowner might find it necessary to contain the animal when they are not at home They might also want to build a dog pen if they find that the waste from the dog discolors the grass and kills some of it

The home remodeling projects for pet owners might allow them to enjoy their indoor and outdoor living spaces more if there were places that could keep an animal from intruding on them A dog run will require the homeowner to select a specific area in the yard that is devoted to the sole use of the dog There are many attractive pens that can be built that make perfect designer remodeling projects that the entire family will ultimately enjoy in the long run

These home remodeling projects will also keep their pet safe when they are not at home and not allow them to run free where they could be hit by an automobile or injured in some other way A dog run will also provide a sense of peace to the home because the dogs barking will not be as loud when the decorative sound barriers are installed Animals will always have water if the dog run is equipped with these devices and cleaning the area of waste is just a scooper tool or hose away

Some remodeling projects for homeowners will allow them to wash and bathe their animal from the comfort of the interior of their home and not out in the bright sun where things are hot enough to cook an egg on the ground Homeowners can install shower stalls around the back door area and drain the soapy water into the neighborhood drainage system Pets will no longer have fleas if they are washed in this manner and the homeowner will be freed up from having to call an exterminator periodically as flea season approaches

Some remodeling projects for homeowners with pets are very minor but will help the homeowner a lot by giving them a opening in the back door for letting the dog out of the house when they need to relieve themselves There are many safety features offered in doggy doors today and homeowners will now have time to enjoy the fully wired stereo systems that they have recently remodeled in their homes Dogs will also be barred from disturbing a homeowner while they are inside a Jacuzzi that is located on the porch with the new barriers installed that keep dogs away

Modernizing Your Home With New Kitchen Cupboards

June 10th, 2009 by admin

Author : Gary Nealon

Home buying involves many choices People could make a decision on a house because of one option or choice, but more often than not, it is determined by several factors Most choices come down to a house being well designed and fitting a families needs From this an individual or family will expect the house or “investment” to grow in value over time

Some elements of the house are a bonus Yes a well designed house makes the choice easier, but then with this choice will come other features that are nice additions Smaller features of a house are not the deciding factor of home buying, but often help with the decision One of these smaller features that could go along way is the kitchen cupboards or in other words the kitchen cabinets Cabinets are not the first thing you think about when entering a house, but once you get to the kitchen, this feature becomes a noticeable and important attribute

A kitchen cupboard is an old term that has slowly transformed over the last half century Many homes built before the nineteen fifties had the traditional kitchen cupboards These cabinets were large solid wood fixtures that were often custom built for each individual house The kitchen cupboard has transformed over the years and has become smaller in size Of course this transformation has already started to go in a cycle and the traditional kitchen cupboard, once out of date, is showing up again

The housing boom in the nineteen fifties, largely brought on by the prosperity after the war caused a large demand for new housing Tract housing developments called for new ideas for the kitchen Traditional kitchen cupboards were no longer practical; instead, smaller, sleeker cabinets were needed to fit into these new houses Houses were smaller and a large kitchen now became obsolete, so the kitchen cupboard was now substituted with the modern kitchen cabinet For the next forty to fifty years these cabinets were the dominate feature in the kitchen Of course there are always exceptions, but for the most part, the kitchen cupboard was downsized in height and width, made less appealing, and mostly was there for usage not design

Fortunately the cycle of design has changed and kitchen cabinets have come full circle There are more choices today and actually a style of the kitchen cupboard is back in fashion Large pantry cabinets have come back into a house and from this the renaissance of the kitchen has begun Another sign of a “throw back” kitchen is the return of the taller kitchen cabinet Most cabinets are around thirty inches high; however a forty two inch kitchen cabinet or kitchen cupboard had now become an option Of course if you’re going to buy these larger (forty two inch) kitchen cupboards, you will need a higher ceiling, but if you have that higher ceiling, these kitchen cabinets fill the space nicely

The kitchen cupboard has come a long way Once a piece of furniture, it was then reduced to a no-frills, practical use, but now it has made its way into the kitchen as a furnishing with style

Find out where the experts go to get all of their kitchen cabinets and accessories. Learn how to save thousand on kitchen cabinets by buying them where contractors and builders shop.

How To Get On The First Rung Of The Property Ladder

June 10th, 2009 by admin

Author : Harwood E

Because of the economic climate that we are living in at the moment more and more young adults are finding it increasing difficult to get on the first rung of the housing ladder without putting themselves in massive debt This is a real problem as the housing market needs to have new buyers coming on board regularly to keep the market buoyant This situation is a hang over from about 5 years ago when we had our last housing boom with prices shooting up by over 60 per cent in some areas, of course this is great news if you are already on the housing ladder but if you are yet to buy your first home these price rises make it increasing difficult to do so Unlike many Central European countries the young adults of this country want to move out of home as soon as possible and learn to stand on their own two feet but with the way house prices are this is impossible for the majority So how can we resolve this problem and what can be done to help young adults find their independence?

Most of us looked forward immensely to having our own home and independence away from our parents, nothing against being with our parents it was just that we needed to experience life for ourselves This independence gives you a better sense of responsibility and helps you to mature into the big wide world, a world that you never really understand when you reside with your mother and father But even living at home you can afford a young adult a certain amount of independence by giving them their own section of the house as their own With this in mind many people are building an extension onto the side of their home and turning it into a mini apartment, fully equipped with everything that you could possibly need to survive on your own If you can create this extension with it's own front door away from the main house then even better still If adding an extension is not an option for you can always look to create the second best alternative by converting your loft space into a fully equipped, self contained flat

Although converting your loft space into a self contained flat may be cheaper and easier to achieve than an extension on the side of your home you may not be able to create the total feeling of independence that your young adult requires, but if it is the only option then you have to make the most of it It is possible to completely personalize your loft conversion to give it the feel of a stand alone flat with the addition of special loft furniture, designed to fit perfectly into a smaller living space and give the feeling of the room being larger than it is For those of you with a taste for fine furniture you need not worry as you can get some top quality loft furniture for reasonable prices, even pieces such as Italian leather loft furniture can be priced very competitively to give that designer flat feel to a loft conversion

So even without a young adult being able to afford their own home you can still give them that feeling of independence as well as them learning about the responsibilities that go with owning their own property

Home Remodeling Designs That Fit the Budget

June 9th, 2009 by admin

Author : Jim Brown

Many homeowners do not expect to pay for home remodeling estimates, but know that home remodeling designs could take a hefty chunk out of the home remodeling budget Home remodeling plans can be kept simple to reduce construction costs, but if the plans are not to exact specifications, the homeowner might spend more on construction materials than are actually needed to make improvements to the home Using home remodeling designs found in magazines that are not created on an exact scale will produce room modifications that are off center and unpleasing to look at

Some homeowners will join clubs that offer a great deal of purchasing power and amazing discounts on home improvement materials Home remodeling designs can be created with a home computer and homeowners can buy remodeling software that allows exact measurements of each area of the home The ability to measure the spaces in each area of the home will keep construction costs low Homeowners can use the software to see exactly how much sheet rock is needed for every wall and how different styles of windows will help improve the interior designs of the home

Most home remodeling projects can be designed on a room-by-room basis, and the homeowner can get an accurate estimate of the square footage of the home by combining the measurements of every room inside the confines of the house being remodeled Some home remodeling designs might need to be redesigned to take advantage of extra space that was not apparent before walls are reduced to studs Some remodeling software programs will identify additional footage that is not apparent to the naked eye, but will increase the sales appeal of a home when the square footage is noted on brochures

There are many reasons why spaces in the home feature hidden attributes Some building crews might have used double insulation on interior walls that used space unnecessarily but will increase the rooms size when other building materials and design alternatives are used Home remodeling designs can utilize attic space and create a living space that can become a home office or an extra bedroom for guests Tearing out walls can create a master bedroom with adjoining bath

When homeowners discover the design possibilities available through software design views, it is easier to make a decision on which design works best for every room in the house before any construction work commences Home remodeling designs will often be affected by plumbing and wiring patterns and homeowners can use utility hookups in each room to their best advantage A homeowner will use remodeling designs to determine how much cabling will be needed to pre-wire rooms for cable television This amount of forethought will keep the homeowner from paying for the services of a cable installer

Many home remodeling designs are created for the do-it-yourselfer A home gardener can use home remodeling software to get a good view of how the placement of trees and shrubs will affect the drainage systems currently on the property Some homeowners will use the software to view the energy-saving benefits of a covered porch for entertaining, and some homeowners use the software programs to view how a new swimming pool will look when it is placed at a diagonal angle in the backyard

Adding a 1950 s Theme to Your Kitchen

June 9th, 2009 by admin

Retro is in Just about everywhere, you see retro designs If you re looking to remodel or redecorate your kitchen, you may want to look into a retro styled kitchen Retro designs incorporate nostalgia into the 21st century

The 1950s are often viewed as a conservative, prosperous and optimistic decade Entertainment was revolutionized in the 50s, with televisions being introduced to family living rooms, movies geared towards teenagers, and of course, the beginning of rock and roll

In the homes, open, airy floor plans were introduced Kitchens were being outfitted with new appliances with chrome and stainless steel, and sweeping designs These appliances helped to make cooking quicker and more convenient Pastel colors, turquoise, aqua, pink, and yellow were popular for kitchen decor Plastics and formica were featured materials in kitchens for tables and chairs

Formica countertops, were easy to clean, and came in colors to match the tables and chairs Vinyl came into use for tablecloths, and furniture covers Bark cloth was another material used in kitchen decor, patterned in boomerang, and abstract shapes Entertaining came to the forefront, with home bars, barbecues, picnic, and party accessories Tupperware containers, melmac, and melamine dishes were popular at the time as well

1950 s kitchen design may bring back warm memories of childhood for those that grew up in the 50s If you want your kitchen to have a nostalgic 1950s look, you can find many items with retro 1950s styling available

1950 s style fabrics, including bark cloth are available You can build a new countertop in Formica If you look around, you can find 1950s style table and chair sets, complete with chrome legs, and vinyl seats in many different colors

Stoves, refrigerators and other appliances, toasters, and drink mixers can be found with 1950s styling, but modern 21st century technology This way, you can have the retro styling, with the convenience of modern technology

In some stores, you may be able to find canisters, breadboxes, silverware, and other items in a 1950 s style

If you just want to add a touch of 1950 s diner decor, you can add replicas of 1950s radios, jukeboxes, and pay phones to your kitchen Vintage Coke machines, and metal picnic coolers will also fit in well with the decor You may also be able to find replicas of 1950 s diner and car hop signs to brighten up the walls

Second hand stores, garage sales, and flea markets are good places to find old furniture that can be refurbished to add to your kitchen Try to find some old magazines from the 50 s, and look at the kitchens featured in them Take notes of what you like in those kitchens, and try to find the same or similar tables and decor to add to your kitchen

For some, a kitchen with a 50s design will bring back the warm and inviting feelings of the past and of days spent in their mother s or grandmother s kitchens For others, a retro look to the room will provide a unique look that is not often found in today s kitchens When it comes to giving your kitchen a nostalgic look, the important thing is to be creative and have fun with it

Buying A New Home Often Requires Minimal Remodeling Repairs

June 9th, 2009 by admin

Author : Jim Brown

A home might seem structurally sound if a visual inspection was done before the home was purchased, but there are many home remodeling repairs that might have defects that will not show up for years Homeowners are finding their dreams destroyed when they begin to notice small cracks in the ceilings and walls, and this type of damage might require replacement of the interior walls of the home

Home remodeling repairs that are small will have very little effect to the structural integrity of a home but they can still affect the value of the home A homeowner might install a new bathroom sink and find that insufficient caulking around the outer edges has caused the sink to leak This type of home repair can cause additional damage to the underlying cabinetry and some homeowners ignore these leaks until the cabinets begin to show water damage with swollen planks and uneven edges

Some home remodeling repairs will be made to the surface of hardwood floors The homeowner might have wanted to completely resurface the wood but to save funds, the homeowner chooses a cheaper route by adding stains and a varnish that turned out later to be water soluble and was marred each time the homeowner mopped the floor or exposed it to any type of water Replacing hardwood floors can be an expensive task but if the correct resurfacing methods are used, the home remodeling project would last for years

The cost of making home repairs can be reduced significantly if routine maintenance tasks are performed on machinery and household appliances The heating and air conditioning system might last many years past its life expectancy guidelines if the homeowner replaced air filters each month and scheduled a seasonal check of all moving parts with a certified technician Otherwise, the homeowner may have no choice but to initiate some large-scale repairs that will be quite expensive

Water leaks from faulty plumbing fixtures might motivate the homeowner into completing home remodeling repairs to several levels of the home Searching for the leak might require a homeowner to dig up the front yard, or climb under a porch The search for the leak might require several holes to be cut in several interior walls and this type of adventure will cause home remodeling repairs to occur that can accrue a lot of remodeling before the leak is found and repaired

Home remodeling repairs can be simplified if the homeowner is knowledgeable about the techniques used to repair various things Home remodeling repairs can be accomplished faster if the homeowner has the tools necessary to remove valves, and tighten nuts and bolts on heating and air conditioning units outside Home remodeling repairs can be simpler if the homeowner knows where to find inexpensive replacement parts for toilets or creates a list that will list all of the model numbers for motors inside the home

All this information will prove useful one day or the homeowner can continue to ignore things when they break down and home remodeling repair can escalate into an outage of bathroom services that will inconvenience everyone in the house before repairs are finished
